2015 Match Results
Our December shoot started off cold and blustery, but 29 tough cowboys and cowgirls had a great time in preparation for the Annual Christmas party in the evening.
Saturday was cold and blustery with temps in low 40s and winds 35-40mph. Nevertheless, 22 hearty souls braved the weather for a fun day of shooting. Ambler was the only clean shooter for these tougher stages … moving targets, etc. Sunday was actually colder (about 25 to start), but there was little wind and the sun was bright. Turned out to be a pretty nice day. CS Brady was the top shooter on Saturday, but was edged out by Naildriver on Sunday. Naildriver and Spitoon Paul both shot clean on Sunday.
This month’s shoot had fewer competitors since Saturday was the same day as the Oklahoma State Match. Nevertheless, seven cowboys competed on Saturday and eight returned on Sunday … several returning after a successful shoot in Oklahoma. Billy Broncstomper took on all challengers with the best times on both Saturday and Sunday. He also shot a clean match on Saturday along with Just Charlie.
Thirty four shooters on Saturday and fourteen on Sunday enjoyed two beautiful days of shooting this weekend. Temps were in low 90s, the humidity was low, and a we had a slight breeze … quite a welcome relief from the over 100-110 temperature readings we’ve had in the last couple of weeks. C.S. Brady took top honors on Saturday with Holy Smoke Harmon and Spitoon Paul shooting clean matches. Ambler was the fastest shooter on Sunday with Trail Agent shooting clean on that day.
How about temperatures in upper 90s with a heat index of 105? Not exactly the best weather for shooting, but Arkansas cowboys are tough. On Saturday we had 22 shooters with ten returning on Sunday. CS Brady was top shooter on Saturday and Naildriver took the honors on Sunday. Bad Luck and Trooper shot clean matches on Saturday. On Sunday Naildriver, Billy Broncstomper, Spitoon Paul and Belle Vaquero shot clean.
After record flooding the rains finally stopped, the road to the range was opened and the sun came out. All this led to a great shoot this last weekend. Both Saturday and Sunday were hot and humid … but, what else would you expect for the first day of summer in Arkansas. We had 26 shooters on Saturday with many of our friends from Oklahoma and NW Arkansas traveling to get in some shooting after so many weekends of rain. Cowpolk was the top shooter on Saturday and C.S. Brady took top honors on Sunday. Cowpolk, Mason Jar, Holy Smoke Harmon and Spitoon Paul shot clean on Saturday with Belle Vaquero, C.S. Brady, Just Charlie and Spitoon Paul shooting clean on Sunday.
Saturday was a great day for Cowboy Shooting. We had 34 shooters show up to clang away at the targets. We had several of our cowboy friends from Oklahoma and northeastern Arkansas attend. None disappointed us with their speed. Willie Mescal took the overall honors and shot a clean match. Ambler, Billy Broncstomper, Fast Fingers, Holy Smoke Harmon, Silent Thunder and Snake Oil George also shot clean matches. On Sunday the weatherman predicted rain, but it stopped early in the morning before eleven brave shooters arrived. CS Brady was the fastest shooter. Spittoon Paul shot a clean match, as did Billy Broncstomper (his second in as many days).
With typical spring weather, we had a threat of rain for both Saturday and Sunday, but it held off for the shoot. Twenty one shooters thumbed their nose at the forecast on Saturday and sixteen did the same on Sunday.
Hell on the Border 2015 was a great success. We had 140 shooters signup for the main match on Saturday and approximately 24 shooters for the Arkansas Wild Bunch Championship on Friday and Sunday. The weather was great on Friday and Saturday, but it did rain for the last five stages of the Wild Bunch Championship on Sunday. Congratulations to the 33 Clean Shooters in the Main Match.
The gorgeous weather brought out many shooters on Saturday and Sunday. We had 44 shooters on Saturday and 14 on Sunday. Creek County Kid was top shooter on Saturday and CS Brady took the honors on Sunday. We had six clean shooters on Saturday with no misses and no procedures. They were Cajun, Creek County Kid, Just Charlie, Naildriver, Rip A Lot and Texas Pepper.
